CHELMSFORD, MA — The Chelmsford Police Department is proud to recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, observed April 12–18, and extend our sincere appreciation to the dedicated professionals who serve as the first point of contact in times of emergency.

Our dispatchers play a critical role in keeping our community safe, providing calm, clear, and professional communication during some of life’s most urgent moments. Whether answering 911 calls, coordinating emergency responses, or assisting walk-in visitors, their work often goes unseen—but is always essential.

As well as our per diem dispatchers:

In 2025, the Chelmsford Communications Center handled an extensive volume of calls, including 101,723 landline calls, 8,836 emergency 911 calls, and 17 Text-to-911 messages, averaging approximately 303 calls per day. The center is responsible for dispatching both police and fire services, logging more than 38,000 calls for service for the Police Department and nearly 27,000 calls for the Fire Department.

Beyond answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatchers maintain detailed daily logs, assist members of the public at the station lobby, communicate vital information to first responders in the field, and coordinate resources during major incidents.

All dispatch personnel also complete ongoing training each year, including continuing education and CPR certification, ensuring they remain prepared to serve the community at the highest level.

The Chelmsford Police Department thanks our dispatchers for their professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to public safety.
