At the Chelmsford Police Department, we prioritize the safety and well-being of our community by ensuring our officers are highly trained in de-escalation techniques and mental health crisis management. We understand the importance of handling sensitive situations with care and professionalism, and we are dedicated to providing the best possible response to those in need.
Our Commitment to Training
Comprehensive Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training
Nearly every officer in our department has completed 40 hours of CIT training. This specialized program equips officers with the skills to effectively and compassionately manage situations involving individuals experiencing mental health crises.
Mental Health First Aid
Our officers are also trained in Mental Health First Aid, which enhances their ability to recognize signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. This training provides them with the tools to respond appropriately, ensuring that those in crisis receive the support and care they need.
Full-Time Clinician on Staff
We are proud to have a full-time clinician on staff. Clinician Rachel Beers, part of the Behavioral Health Unit, provides invaluable support to our officers and the community. Rachel plays a critical role in our efforts to address mental health issues and provide immediate assistance during crises.
24/7 Access to Behavioral Health Clinicians
Through our partnership with the Behavioral Health Unit, our officers have access to clinicians 24 hours a day. This ensures that no matter the time or situation, expert help is available to assist in de-escalating incidents and providing necessary interventions.
Innovative Tools and Upcoming Training
Deploying Taser 10
In our commitment to the safety of both the community and our officers, we will soon be deploying the new Taser 10. This advanced tool offers enhanced capabilities for safely managing volatile situations, further supporting our de-escalation efforts.
Upcoming CIT Training
To continue our dedication to excellence, we will be hosting additional CIT training sessions in the coming weeks. This training will further equip our officers, as well as officers from neighboring departments, with the latest techniques and knowledge in crisis intervention.
At the Chelmsford Police Department, we are continually striving to improve our response to mental health crises and other challenging situations. We believe that thorough training and access to resources are key to providing compassionate and effective service to our community. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all.
Stay tuned for more updates on our initiatives and upcoming training sessions.
