CHELMSFORD, MA — In a ceremony held on April 24, 2025, Chief Colin Spence promoted Detective Kenny Meehan to the rank of Sergeant within the Chelmsford Police Department, recognizing his exceptional service, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the department and the community he serves.
Sergeant Meehan began his career with CPD in 2012 following his honorable service in the United States Army, which included deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. His lifelong commitment to public service has continued ever since—within law enforcement and through his charitable work with organizations like Voices of Hope, which raises funds for cancer research.
“Kenny Meehan represents the very best of who we are as a department,” said Chief Spence during the swearing-in ceremony. “His professionalism, compassion, and work ethic have set an example for all of us. It’s no surprise that both the community and his fellow officers hold him in the highest regard.”
Over the years, Sergeant Meehan has undergone training in areas including mental health response, crisis intervention, human trafficking, computer crimes, substance abuse, suicide prevention, and officer wellness. Within just one year of being promoted to Detective, he quickly earned a reputation for handling complex and critical cases with integrity and precision.
Beyond his investigative work, Sergeant Meehan has played an instrumental role in several departmental initiatives. He has served as a Field Training Officer, a member of the Motorcycle Unit, and proudly represents the department as part of the CPD Honor Guard. He is also known throughout the department as someone colleagues turn to during personal or professional challenges—a testament to the deep respect and trust he has earned.
“As I prepared for today’s ceremony, I reviewed Sergeant Meehan’s personnel file,” Chief Spence added. “Letter after letter echoed the same themes: professionalism, empathy, intelligence, and kindness. These are the qualities that define him—and the kind of leader we are proud to promote.”
