Chelmsford Police Department Swears in Officer Ryan Butler

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — Police Chief Colin C. Spence is pleased to announce the swearing-in of Officer Ryan Butler to the Chelmsford Police Department.

Officer Butler was sworn in during a ceremony held on March 23, 2026, in the department’s Community Room. The event was attended by family members, friends, fellow officers, and Town employees.

Officer Butler grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, where he attended Waltham High School. He later continued his education at Saint Michael’s College.

Officer Butler joins the Chelmsford Police Department following more than five years of distinguished service with the Vermont State Police. During his tenure, he served as a patrol trooper and field training officer, and spent two years as a K9 Officer and a member of the department’s Tactical Services Unit.

Officer Butler will now begin field training with Chelmsford Police Department officers as he transitions into his new role.

“We are proud to welcome Officer Butler to Chelmsford,” said Chief Spence. “His experience and dedication to the profession will be a great asset to our department and the community we serve.”
