Chelmsford Police Department to Host Drug Take Back Day

The Chelmsford Police Department will be participating in National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 26th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We invite all residents to bring their unused or expired prescription medications to the Chelmsford Police Department for safe disposal. This free, anonymous event is part of a nationwide effort to help reduce the risk of drug misuse and protect the environment.

Why Drug Take Back Day Is Important

1. Preventing Prescription Drug Misuse
Unused medications left in your home can easily fall into the wrong hands, leading to accidental overdoses or drug abuse. By safely disposing of these drugs, you’re reducing the chance of them being misused by others, including children and teens.

2. Combatting the Opioid Crisis
Many people who become addicted to opioids begin by misusing prescription drugs found at home. By cleaning out your medicine cabinet, you’re helping reduce the availability of addictive medications and aiding in the fight against the opioid epidemic.

3. Protecting the Environment
Flushing drugs down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can lead to contamination of water supplies and harm to wildlife. Drug Take Back Day ensures that medications are disposed of safely and responsibly, without causing environmental damage.

What You Can Bring
We will accept any expired, unwanted, or unused prescription drugs, including over-the-counter medications. However, needles, sharps, and liquids are not accepted.
