Chelmsford Police Department Upgrades AEDs to Zoll AED 3

CHELMSFORD, MA – February 11, 2025 – The Chelmsford Police Department is pleased to announce the recent upgrade of its Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) to the state-of-the-art Zoll AED 3, further enhancing our ability to provide lifesaving assistance in medical emergencies.

The Zoll AED 3 features Real CPR Help® technology, providing real-time feedback on compression depth and rate, ensuring optimal CPR performance. It also includes a high-resolution touchscreen display, a universal CPR Uni-padz® electrode for both adult and pediatric patients, and Wi-Fi connectivity for remote monitoring and maintenance. These advancements make the Zoll AED 3 an exceptional tool for first responders, increasing the chances of survival for individuals experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

This critical upgrade was made possible in part due to a grant secured by Sgt. Matthew Fernald, allowing us to modernize our fleet with the most advanced lifesaving equipment available.

The Chelmsford Police Department is especially proud to partner with Zoll Medical Corporation, a world-class medical technology company headquartered right here in Chelmsford. Zoll’s commitment to high-quality, innovative, and reliable emergency medical products aligns with our mission to provide the best possible service and care to the community.

The department has previously utilized Zoll AEDs in life-saving situations. Notably, during a major snowstorm on January 29, 2022, Chelmsford Police Sgt. Stephen Fredericks, along with Officers Aidan Gillis and Ashley Rokas, responded to a medical emergency where they employed a Zoll AED to successfully resuscitate a resident. Due to the swift response and professionalism of all involved, the individual recovered fully and was able to participate in significant family events shortly thereafter.

The Chelmsford Police Department remains committed to enhancing public safety and providing top-tier emergency response services to the community.
