Chelmsford Police Department Welcomes Three New Officers

CHELMSFORD, MA – Chief Colin Spence is pleased to announce that three new officers have joined the ranks of the Chelmsford Police Department following their graduation today from the Massachusetts Police Training Committee (MPTC) Northern Essex Community College Police Academy.

The graduation ceremony, held at Northern Essex Community College, was attended by family, friends, and members of local law enforcement who gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of the newest academy graduates. Officers Ricardo Garcia, Andrew Finerty, and Carly Rose successfully completed the rigorous academy training and will now begin their 12-week field training program next week.

Officer Garcia grew up in Boston and Lawrence and is bilingual in English and Spanish.  He is currently pursuing an associate degree at Northern Essex Community College. Before joining the police force, he worked as a sales representative for 10 years and gained experience in public safety while working security at Lawrence High School.

Officer Andrew Finerty is originally from Rockland, MA.  Officer Finerty graduated from UMass Lowell in 2021 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He later moved to Dracut, MA, and gained valuable experience in emergency response by working as an EMT with Pridestar Trinity EMS for four years.

Officer Rose is a Billerica native who graduated from Keene State College in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. She is currently furthering her education by working toward a master’s degree in Criminal Justice at UMass Lowell. Before joining the Chelmsford Police Department, she worked as a police cadet with the Waltham Police Department for 2.5 years.

The three new officers will begin their 12-week field training program next week, where they will receive hands-on training under the guidance of experienced field training officers. This program will help them apply their academy training in real-world policing scenarios as they integrate into the Chelmsford community.
