Sergeant Craig Walsh Retires After 37 Years of Service

The Chelmsford Police Department proudly announces the retirement of Sergeant Craig Walsh, who has dedicated over three decades of service to our community. Sgt. Walsh began his distinguished career in 1987 as an Auxiliary Police Officer and transitioned to a full-time officer in 1996. Throughout his career, he has held various roles, including Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer, Traffic Safety Officer, Detective, and Patrol Sergeant.

In addition to his professional duties, Sgt. Walsh was a devoted member of the police department’s honor guard. The honor guard not only participates in parades and public events but also honors fallen officers by attending their wakes and funerals, paying respect to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Sgt. Walsh’s exemplary service has been recognized with numerous awards. He received accolades for outstanding performance of duty in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2011, as well as a life-saving award in 2013. His commitment to the force continues a family tradition of service, following in the footsteps of his father, Gene Walsh, who retired in 1991.
