Chelmsford Police Department Seeks Public’s Help in Investigation of Gunfire Incident

Chief Colin Spence reports that the Chelmsford Police Department is seeking assistance from the public in identifying a suspect involved in the recent incident of gunfire on Graniteville Road.

On Friday, May 3, at approximately 7:19 a.m., Chelmsford Police responded to a business at 55 Graniteville Road for a report of shell casings in the parking lot and damage to an ATM machine. Investigators recovered eight spent shell casings from the scene and the ATM machine on the property was struck several times by rounds of ammunition.

Police received a report of loud bangs in the area at about 1:40 a.m., but responding officers were unable to confirm that there were gunshots at that time.

After reviewing surveillance footage, a lone male is seen approaching the ATM and shooting it multiple times. The suspect approached and left on foot.

The Chelmsford Police are now releasing footage and still images of the suspect involved in the incident, as well as images of a vehicle being operated nearby immediately following the incident.

The involved suspect appears to be a male who is at least six feet tall, and approximately 250 pounds. The suspect appears to be wearing a dark green or grey hooded sweatshirt with a light-colored t-shirt underneath, as well as dark pants and dark basketball shoes with white soles. The suspect is seen brandishing and firing a black handgun.

The involved vehicle was parked nearby and then driven from the area consistent with the time frame of the shooting. The vehicle appears to be a light-colored Chevrolet Malibu sedan or similar, with a model year from 2019 to 2023.
