Chelmsford, MA — The Chelmsford Police Department is pleased to announce that it has officially transitioned from the CodeRED notification system to RAVE Mobile Alerts, powered by Smart911. This new system provides a more reliable, flexible, and user-friendly way to keep residents informed during emergencies and important community events.
RAVE Mobile Alerts allows users to receive notifications via text message, phone call, email, or mobile app. This system also gives residents the option to customize the types of alerts they receive, ranging from emergency notifications to general community updates like road closures, detours, and safety advisories.
“Ensuring the safety of our residents is our top priority, and timely communication plays a critical role,” said Colin Spence, Chelmsford Police Chief. “RAVE Mobile Alerts provides a significant improvement over our previous system by offering multiple ways to reach people quickly and reliably.”
Important Notice: Information from the old CodeRED system will not transfer to RAVE Mobile Alerts. All residents, business owners, and visitors must sign up for the new system in order to continue receiving alerts. To help with the transition, CodeRED will remain available for a short period of time while the department completes the full switch to RAVE Mobile Alerts. This overlap will help minimize interruptions in service.
In addition, if an emergency alert must be issued, the Chelmsford Police Department has the capability of sending a telephone call to most landline numbers in town. However, this is limited and may not cover all situations. It is highly recommended that everyone sign up for RAVE Mobile Alerts to ensure they receive critical information without interruption.
Signing up is simple and free:
- Visit the Smart911 sign-up page at https://www.smart911.com/smart911/ref/reg.action?pa=chelmsford
- Or text CPDALERT to 78015 to register via text message
Residents who do not have access to a computer or smartphone can visit the Chelmsford Public Library, contact the Chelmsford Police Department directly, or register at community events where sign-up tables will be available.
The Chelmsford Police Department encourages everyone who lives, works, or travels through town to register as soon as possible to ensure they continue receiving critical information.
