Chelmsford Police Receive $26,651 State Grant to Boost Traffic Safety Patrols

CHELMSFORD — Chief Colin Spence is pleased to share that the Chelmsford Police Department has been awarded $26,651.40 in state grant funding to improve road safety.

The Healy-Driscoll Administration awarded more than $12.4 million in funding through the Municipal Road Safety, State Agency Traffic Safety, and Underserved Communities Traffic Safety Grant Programs.

The Chelmsford Police Department received funding through the Municipal Road Grant Safety Program. The funding will allow departments to afford road safety initiatives such as traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, non-enforcement activities such as training or community events, and the purchase of traffic safety equipment or other community safety items such as bike helmets.

Chelmsford Police plan to use the grant funding to focus on traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, and distracted driving enforcement.

“Enforcing traffic laws and ensuring that the roads of Chelmsford are safe for both drivers and pedestrians is a high priority for the Chelmsford Police Department as we seek to keep our community safe and welcoming,” said Chief Spence. “We plan to use this grant money to focus on traffic safety enforcement, bicyclist and pedestrian safety enforcement, and distracted driving enforcement,  I’d like to encourage everyone to be sure to put your phones and electronic devices down and to focus on driving. Our patrol officers will be searching for those who are illegally distracted behind the wheel.”
