Chelmsford, Massachusetts — Police Chief Colin C. Spence is pleased to announce the promotion of Officer Christopher Chipchak to the rank of Sergeant with the Chelmsford Police Department.
Sergeant Chipchak was formally promoted during a ceremony held on March 9, 2026, in the department’s Community Room. The event was attended by family members, friends, fellow officers, and Town employees who gathered to recognize and celebrate this important milestone in his law enforcement career.
A graduate of Chelmsford High School, Sergeant Chipchak was an active student-athlete and played on the school’s hockey team. He went on to attend Roger Williams University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Criminal Justice and a 3.8 grade point average. While at Roger Williams, he served as captain of both the cross country and track and field teams during his junior and senior years, demonstrating leadership and commitment both academically and athletically.
Sergeant Chipchak is currently continuing his education and is enrolled in a master’s degree program at University of Massachusetts Lowell.
After deciding to pursue a career in law enforcement, Sergeant Chipchak sought out numerous opportunities to gain experience in the field. He completed internships with the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, the Rhode Island State Police, and the Chelmsford Police Department. In addition, he served as a member of the Chelmsford Police Department’s Auxiliary Police Unit for nearly five years.
Sergeant Chipchak later self-sponsored his training at the Cape Cod Municipal Police Academy, where he graduated with a 98 percent academic average. The Chelmsford Police Department was fortunate when he officially joined the department in June of 2021.
Throughout his career with the department, Sergeant Chipchak has earned a reputation for his professionalism, calmness under pressure, compassion, reliability, and dedication to public service.
He has actively pursued additional training in several specialized areas, including criminal investigations, DNA collection, the REID interview technique, juvenile law, and unmanned aerial systems (drones). In addition to his law enforcement responsibilities, Sergeant Chipchak is also a certified emergency medical technician (EMT).
Sergeant Chipchak has also played a significant role in the department’s field training officer program, helping train and mentor many of the department’s newest officers and ensuring they meet the highest standards of professionalism and performance.
His commitment to service has been recognized with numerous awards both before and during his law enforcement career. Prior to entering the police academy, he was honored as Emergency Medical Services Employee of the Year. Since joining the Chelmsford Police Department, Sergeant Chipchak has also received three departmental awards for his outstanding performance and dedication to duty.
Chief Spence praised Sergeant Chipchak for his work ethic and commitment to the community.
“Sergeant Chipchak has consistently demonstrated professionalism, leadership, and a strong commitment to serving the Chelmsford community,” said Chief Spence. “His experience, dedication, and willingness to continually improve himself make him well prepared for this new role. I am confident he will continue to serve the department and our residents with distinction.”
