Yesterday, May 13, members of the Chelmsford Police Department participated in a check disbursement on behalf of Cops for Kids with Cancer, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing assistance to families of children battling cancer and helping improve their quality of life.
The disbursement was in support of the Bolger family — Matt (father), Jenn (mother), Reese (age 3), Reagan (age 8), and Tyler (age 6), who is a CFKWC recipient.
Board members in attendance included Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan and Deputy Chief Andrew Booth of the Carlisle Police Department. The Bolger family are residents of Chelmsford, and Tyler attends Byam Elementary School, where May 13 also marked his first day back at school. During his visit to the station, Tyler especially enjoyed meeting Ozzie, who was the highlight of the tour.
Tyler was diagnosed with leukemia (B-cell ALL) on January 10, 2026, and is currently undergoing treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital.
If anyone is aware of a local family with a child who has been diagnosed with cancer and may benefit from support, please contact Deputy Chief Gary Hannagan at ghannagan@chelmsfordma.gov.
